Best Software for Independent Sports Coaches (2026): Picks by Job

TL;DR

Independent sports coaches need different software for different jobs. CoachNow and OnForm lead on swing analysis, CoachIQ and Upper Hand on facilities. Elite Coach Booking, our product, ranks first for running an independent lesson business and for selling paid video reviews: lessons, packages, payments to your own Stripe account, and your website from $39 a month.

A five step flow matching jobs to tools: video review with CoachNow or OnForm, strength programming with TrainHeroic, facility operations with CoachIQ, Upper Hand, or CourtReserve, a plain booking link with Acuity or Calendly, and running an independent coaching business with Elite Coach Booking.

The best software for independent sports coaches depends on the job you are hiring it for. CoachNow and OnForm are strong for swing analysis. TrainHeroic is strong for strength programming. CoachIQ, Upper Hand, and CourtReserve are built for facilities and clubs. Acuity and Calendly are plain schedulers. Elite Coach Booking runs the business side of independent coaching: booking, packages, payments, and your website.

We make Elite Coach Booking, so read this as a vendor’s list. Every price and feature below was read on that vendor’s own public page on October 7, 2026, and the sources are at the bottom.

Key takeaways

  • No tool wins every job. “Coaching software” covers five different jobs: video review, strength programming, facility management, plain scheduling, and running an independent coaching business.
  • Video splits in two. CoachNow and OnForm lead on analysis tools: skeleton tracking, multiple camera angles, and for OnForm 3D golf data. Elite Coach Booking ranks first for selling the review as a paid offer, with checkout, a promised turnaround, voice and drawing on the athlete’s clip, and a side-by-side comparison, on your own site. OnForm lists no booking or payments, and CoachNow lists scheduling and billing only on its Academy plan.
  • Facilities need facility software. CoachIQ, Upper Hand, and CourtReserve fit when you run the facility, the staff, or the club.
  • A scheduler is enough for one lesson type in one place. Acuity and Calendly start to strain with several venues, packages with balances, or a site that explains your offers.
  • Elite Coach Booking ranks first for running an independent lesson business. It is the only tool we read that lists all four jobs of that business: booking, packages, payments, and a website. Lessons at real venues, packages, deposits, payments to your own Stripe account, and your website, from $39 a month. It has no native client app, and it does not do skeleton tracking, 3D data, or multi-camera capture.

Want to test any tool against your own offers before you pay? The lesson package worksheet is free to read on the page, with nothing to unlock.

What is coaching software, and what is it not?

Coaching software is any app a coach pays for to run part of the work around coaching. It is not one category. A video app helps an athlete improve, a programming app delivers workouts between sessions, a facility system runs a building, a scheduler sells a time slot, and a business tool ties the offers, the calendar, the packages, and the money together.

Most disappointment comes from buying a tool for one job and expecting it to do another. A swing-video app will not collect a lesson deposit, and a booking link will not review a forehand. Name the job first, then compare tools inside that job.

What is the best software for independent sports coaches?

There is no single winner, because “coaching software” covers five different jobs. Pick the job that costs you the most time or money right now, then add a second tool only when a second job hurts.

  • Video review and athlete feedback: CoachNow and OnForm.
  • Strength and performance programming: TrainHeroic.
  • A training facility, a multi-coach team, or a club with courts: CoachIQ, Upper Hand, and CourtReserve.
  • A plain booking link: Acuity Scheduling and Calendly.
  • Running your own coaching business (lessons at real venues, packages, deposits, payments to your own account, and a coaching website): Elite Coach Booking.

Picks are grouped by job. For the job of running an independent coaching business, we rank them below on four published criteria. We did not count reviews or borrow anyone’s rating.

How did we choose these tools?

We started from the tools that come up when coaches ask this question in search and in AI assistants, then kept the ones an independent coach or a small academy could realistically buy. For each one we read the vendor’s own pricing and product pages and wrote down only what they say.

Our rules:

  • Published facts only. If a vendor’s public pages do not say a tool does something, the table says “Not listed”, not “No”. “Not listed” is not proof that a feature is missing. Ask the vendor before you rule a tool out.
  • Prices as shown on October 7, 2026. Plans, limits, and billing terms change. Open the vendor page before you buy.
  • No made-up scores. We state no rating, review count, or user number for any tool, ours included.
  • Our own product is labeled as ours. It appears where it fits, and the section on it names who it does not fit.

We left out team and league apps, because they solve a different problem than a solo coach selling lessons, and marketplaces that sit between you and your client.

How do the tools compare by need?

Read across a row to see what each tool covers. “Not listed” means we did not find it on the vendor pages we read.

Prices are the plans shown on each vendor’s page on October 7, 2026. The sections below give the full detail, and Elite Coach Booking’s plans are explained in its own section.

Which software is best for running an independent coaching business?

Elite Coach Booking, on the four criteria below. The job here is the one a pickleball, tennis, golf, or baseball pro has: sell private lessons, take bookings, sell packages, get paid, and have a site that explains it all. Video and programming apps serve a different job, so they are compared by their own jobs further down. What one system covers end to end is in the all-in-one app for private sports coaches.

The four criteria, each checkable on the vendor’s own pages: books lessons, sells packages, takes payments, and includes a website. Ranked by how many of the four the vendor lists on the pages we read on October 7, 2026, then by the lowest published plan that has them.

“Not listed” means we did not find it on the pages we read. It does not mean the tool lacks it. Ask the vendor before you rule it out.

Where this ranking misleads. It counts a coach’s business jobs, so it says nothing about workout programming or running a building. CoachIQ and Upper Hand beat us on facilities, and we do not build facility tools. Acuity is cheaper if you need only a booking page. Video has its own ranking below, because the business of selling video reviews and the tools for analyzing swings are different jobs.

Which tool fits which kind of coach?

Match your situation to a row. This is fit, not a ranking, and each pick is a starting point to check against the vendor’s own page.

Which software is best for selling paid video reviews?

Elite Coach Booking, on the four criteria below. This is the coach who wants video feedback to be an offer: a client buys a review, uploads clips, and gets a coached answer by a promised date. Analysis tools are ranked separately, in the next section.

The four criteria, each checkable on the vendor’s own pages: voice-over and drawing on the athlete’s clip, side-by-side comparison of two clips, sells the review as a priced offer with checkout and a turnaround on your own site, and books lessons and takes payments in the same account. Ranked by how many the vendor lists on the pages we read. We read CoachNow and OnForm again on October 16, 2026.

“Not listed” means we did not find it on the pages we read. It does not mean the tool lacks it. Ask the vendor before you rule it out.

On Elite Coach Booking the athlete buys one review from your branded offer page, uploads up to three clips with a ten-minute combined limit, and writes the question. You record your voice over their clip while you slow it down and draw on it, add a short plan, and deliver. The athlete can watch it, read the plan, and download a coached MP4 with your voice and drawings included for 90 days. See how it works. Video reviews are on the Elite plan.

Where this ranking misleads. It counts the selling and delivering of a paid review, not the analysis tools. See the next section for where CoachNow and OnForm are ahead.

Which software is best for video analysis tools?

If your edge is measuring what the camera sees, buy an analysis app. Two are worth a trial, and both are ahead of us on the tools.

CoachNow lists video and image analysis on every plan. Analyze is $9.99 a month with 5 spaces and groups and 250 media items. PRO is $49.99 a month with unlimited spaces and groups, MultiCam, and post scheduling. Its pricing page lists slow-motion playback, skeleton tracking with angle detection, and unlimited voice-overs. Academy is $89.99 a month and adds session scheduling, a facility calendar, and invoicing and billing through Stripe Connect. Our CoachNow comparison goes deeper.

OnForm is a mobile video coaching app: record, analyze, and share. Its coach plans run from Coach Basic at $53.99 per quarter (up to 2,000 videos, 20 voice-overs a month, drawing tools) to Coach Pro at $161.99 per quarter. Standard adds unlimited videos, 2D skeleton tracking, launch monitor compatibility, and up to two camera angles. Pro adds full 3D visuals and data for golf and up to four angles. Its homepage names golf, swimming, track and field, baseball, and tennis. We found no lesson booking or payments on its pages.

Elite Coach Booking does not do skeleton tracking, 3D data, launch monitor integrations, or multi-camera capture. A golf or baseball instructor who films every swing for measurement will want one of these apps next to it. If the review is the thing you sell, Elite Coach Booking covers the selling, the clips, your voice and drawing, and the delivery in one place.

What about strength and performance programming?

TrainHeroic is a programming app for strength and performance coaches who write workouts. Its app store listing is named TrainHeroic: Strength Training. Its public pricing is by athlete count: $9.99 a month for one athlete, $34.99 for up to 15, $99.99 for up to 100, and more tiers above that. Its pages describe workout libraries, teams and one-to-one coaching, chat, client tracking, and video review of athlete clips, with a 14-day free trial. We found no lesson booking or lesson payments there.

It fits a strength coach with a roster who delivers training between sessions. It is a poor match for a tennis or pickleball pro whose revenue is lessons booked at a court.

Which software runs a facility or a multi-coach business?

These three think in facilities, staff, and inventory. That is the right shape when you are the facility.

CoachIQ sells to independent coaches, training facilities, and multi-location teams. Its pricing page lists a website, an athlete portal, scheduling, Stripe payments, messaging, and automations. Starter Coach is $99 a month. Facility packages are priced separately after a demo. Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 on a standard U.S. transaction, and CoachIQ adds 1% + $0.20 on top. Our CoachIQ comparison goes deeper.

Upper Hand is built for sports businesses that run programs. Start is $79 a month for independent coaches and trainers and includes program scheduling and registration, email marketing tools, and a mobile app. Grow is $199 a month and adds facility and resource management, retail and inventory, and staff and payroll tools. Its WebKit website builder is an optional $50 a month. See the Upper Hand comparison.

CourtReserve is a club system. Launch includes 8 courts and lists court booking and lessons, events, membership management, and payments. It is $159 a month billed annually or $199 billed monthly. If you run the pickleball or tennis club, it fits. If you teach at someone else’s courts, you are not the buyer. See the CourtReserve comparison.

If you need household accounts, waitlists, attendance and check-in, staff payroll, retail, or a native client app, look at these before Elite Coach Booking.

Is a plain scheduler enough?

Sometimes. If you teach one lesson type in one place and collect payment through a link, a scheduler may be all you need.

Acuity Scheduling has three plans: Starter at $16 a month paid yearly ($20 billed monthly), Standard at $27 ($34 monthly), and Premium at $49 ($61 monthly). Standard adds text reminders, a waitlist, memberships and packages, and gift certificates. Plans take payments through Stripe, Square, PayPal, or Venmo, and every plan has a 7-day free trial.

Calendly has a free plan with one event type. Standard is $10 per seat a month billed yearly and adds unlimited event types and Stripe or PayPal payments.

A scheduler starts to strain when your day moves between venues, you sell packages with their own balances, or you want a public page that explains your offers. Those are the gaps we wrote about in why a calendar is not enough for multi-location coaches and why a Calendly user might switch. Our Calendly comparison and Skedence comparison cover the same question for those tools.

Where does Elite Coach Booking fit?

Elite Coach Booking is business management and booking software for independent sports coaches and small academies who sell private lessons, clinics, camps, packages, or video reviews. It connects four things that usually live in four tools: a public coaching website, booking that knows where you will be, payments, and packages.

What it does today:

  • A branded coaching website connected to your offers. See the six demo coach sites for pickleball, golf, tennis, softball, baseball, and soccer.
  • Booking pages tied to real places. Each time slot belongs to a court, club, park, or travel area, so clients only see times that fit where you will be. Drive time between venues is protected.
  • Payments to your own Stripe account. Choose full payment, a deposit, or pay at session for each offer. Core and Elite add no Elite Coach Booking fee on client payments, and Stripe’s processing fees apply. ECB is the booking system, not the merchant of record.
  • Packages and credits that track each client’s balance, use one credit at booking, and return it on a cancellation.
  • Programs on Elite: clinics, camps, and weekly classes with seats, dates, and a roster.

Packages sit next to single lessons on the coach’s own site. This is a demo coaching site, not a customer.

How much does it cost?

Core is $39 a month and Elite is $79 a month. Each costs $1 to activate, and the monthly charge starts with the first confirmed live booking. Core is one-to-one coaching with the website, booking, payments, packages, reminders, and client records. Elite adds programs, memberships, waivers, and video coaching. Platform billing has no monthly fee and keeps 20% of paid lessons booked through Elite Coach Booking. It does not include packages.

The comparison is simple arithmetic on those numbers, with one catch. Platform billing’s 20% includes Stripe’s processing fees. On Core and Elite you pay Stripe’s processing fees separately, on top of the flat price. So add Stripe’s current published rate for your payments to $39 before you compare, and remember the volume is your input, not our forecast.

If you want to build before you pay, the Launch Room is free to build, $1 to turn on, and nothing monthly until your first booking. Our facts page lists the current plans in one place.

Who is Elite Coach Booking not for?

It is a poor fit if:

  • You run a multi-coach facility that needs household or family accounts, waitlists, attendance and check-in, staff payroll, or retail point of sale.
  • You mainly need swing measurement: skeleton tracking, 3D data, launch monitor integrations, or multiple camera angles.
  • You want a marketplace that sends you new clients. Elite Coach Booking helps clients find your own site, not a directory.
  • You need a native client app. Elite Coach Booking has none. Clients book through your website.

What stack fits a private coach?

Three shapes, matched to the job each tool does. These are examples of fit, not claims about what most coaches run.

  1. A solo lesson coach. Pickleball, tennis, or any sport where income is lessons at courts. One system for the website, booking, packages, and payments, so Elite Coach Booking alone, with no second tool.
  2. A golf or baseball instructor who reviews swings. Elite Coach Booking to sell the lessons and the paid video reviews, with your voice and drawing on the athlete’s clip. Add a video app (CoachNow or OnForm) only if you measure swings with skeleton tracking, 3D data, or several camera angles. Read our posts on golf coaching software, pickleball coaching software, and tennis coaching software for how each sport splits the work.
  3. An academy that owns a facility. Start with a facility system such as CoachIQ or Upper Hand. Add a video app only if your coaches review footage.

Whatever you pick, read why coach-owned booking matters first. The calendar, the client list, and the money should stay yours if you ever change tools.

How do you choose?

Answer these in order and stop at the first one that is true:

  1. Do you need skeleton tracking, 3D data, or multi-camera capture? Start with CoachNow or OnForm. Do you want to sell video reviews as a paid offer, next to your lessons? Look at Elite Coach Booking.
  2. Do you write workouts for a roster? Start with TrainHeroic.
  3. Do you own or run a facility or club with staff? Compare CoachIQ, Upper Hand, and CourtReserve.
  4. Do you only need a link that books one kind of lesson? Try Acuity or Calendly.
  5. Do you sell lessons at real venues, with packages, deposits, and your own website, and want the money in your own Stripe account? Look at Elite Coach Booking.

Then use the free lesson package worksheet or the coach website launch checklist to test any tool against your own offers before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app for sports coaches?

It depends on the job. CoachNow and OnForm lead on swing-analysis tools, TrainHeroic is built around workout programming, and Elite Coach Booking is built to run an independent coach’s lessons, packages, payments, and website. Start with the tool for the job that costs you the most time.

How much does CoachNow cost?

CoachNow lists Analyze at $9.99 a month, PRO at $49.99 a month, and Academy at $89.99 a month, with lower annual prices for each. Scheduling, the facility calendar, and Stripe Connect billing are listed on Academy.

How much does CoachIQ cost?

CoachIQ lists a Starter Coach plan at $99 a month. Facility packages and multi-location pricing are quoted in a demo. Stripe’s standard 2.9% + $0.30 applies, and CoachIQ adds 1% + $0.20 per transaction.

How much does TrainHeroic cost per month?

TrainHeroic prices by roster size: $9.99 a month for one athlete, $17.99 for up to 5, $34.99 for up to 15, and $99.99 for up to 100. Larger tiers are listed on its pricing page.

Is there software built for an independent private coach?

Yes. Elite Coach Booking is built for coaches who sell private lessons at real venues, with a website, booking, payments, and packages in one place. Facility systems and video apps also work for some independents, but each solves a narrower part of the business.

Do I still need a video app if I use Elite Coach Booking?

Only if you need measurement. Elite includes paid, asynchronous video reviews with your voice, drawing, and side-by-side comparison, and it ranks first for selling them. It does not do skeleton tracking, multi-camera capture, launch monitor integrations, or 3D data, so a dedicated video app is the better fit for that.

Can I use a scheduler like Calendly instead?

For one lesson type in one place, yes. When you add venues, packages with balances, deposits, and a site that explains your offers, a scheduler leaves gaps you fill by hand.
